What is Synalar?
The medication is a corticosteroid. This medication treats skin problems that are accompanied by itching, redness, and swelling. A generic version of Synalar is available.

What should I check before I use Synalar?
Please verify if you have any of these conditions: diabetes, any type of infection including measles, tuberculosis, herpes or chickenpox, large areas of burned or damaged skin, thinning of the skin, an unusual or allergic reaction to fluocinolone, steroids, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives, pregnant or trying to get pregnant, breast-feeding.

How should I use Synalar?
Synalar cream is for external use only. Please don't take by mouth. Wash your hands before and after using the medication. Apply a thin film of Synalar to the affected area and rub in gently and don't bandage or wrap the skin being treated unless directed by your doctor. Do not get the the medication in your eyes.

Contact your doctor regarding the use of Synalar in children as special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose of Synalar?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. There should be an interval of at least 12 hours between doses.

What drug(s) may interact with this medication?
No medications are known to interact with Synalar. Inform to your doctor of any other skin medication you may be using.

On the questionnaire needed to buy Synalar, inform of all medications you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your doctor if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medication works. Check with your doctor before stopping or starting any of your medications.

What side effects may I notice from using Synalar?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor as soon as possible: dark red spots on the skin, lack of healing of the skin condition, painful, red, pus-filled blisters in hair follicles, severe burning and continued itching of the skin, thinning of the skin with easy bruising. Other serious side effects may develop if you use too much of this medication.

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor if they continue or are bothersome): burning, itching, or irritation of the skin, dry skin, increased redness or scaling of the skin, unusual increased growth of hair on the face or body.

What precautions should I take while taking Synalar?
Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 1 week of Synalar use. It is important not to use more medication than prescribed. Don't use on healthy skin or over large areas of skin. Tell your doctor if you are exposed to anyone with measles or chickenpox, or if you develop sores or blisters that do not heal properly.

Can I overdose with Synalar?
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Where can I keep my Synalar?
Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze. Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date.
